Best Holiday letter from a principal to date.

Dear H——— Families,

Snow in the forecast, conference nights and the Lions choking down the stretch…. feels like Thanksgiving already.

It’s amazing when you think about it. Starting in Kindergarten we perform a ritual that on the surface seems almost unnatural. We turn the care and education of our children over to others, even if it is just for a part of the day. Granted this transaction goes more smoothly for some more than others, but they all wind up in school. We say, “Here is the most important person in the universe to me… my child, my hope, my future. Please keep them safe, happy and teach them everything they will need to know to be successful.” It’s an incredible act of trust and sacrifice.

It’s this act that enriches the lives of educators in ways it is hard to comprehend. When I think back on the times I have spent laughing with our students, throwing a football, cracking jokes in the lunchroom or maybe helping them out of a jam they have found themselves in (oh the joy that is the day after Halloween), I understand how fortunate I am to be here. I’m not afraid to admit that most of time I spend on the job is flat-out fun, although I still try to make myself appear to be indispensable (I’m not).

This Thanksgiving I’ll be thinking about how grateful I am to you. You have given me so many great days and great times. Thank you for sending your children to Heritage everyday. It is a sacrifice that enriches my life and one that I deeply appreciate. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and a great holiday season.
